Our alumni is currently a finalist in Brave New Voices 2014. We are honored to have been part of such an amazing young woman’s journey. Rhiannon is now tackling social justice issues and we couldn’t be more proud.
Don’t read the comments on the youtube video if you’re triggered by rape threats or anything like that. I spent about fifteen minutes yesterday flagging as many as I could as spam but there are doubtless more.
The story is very episodic, so we picked a different color scheme for each section. For example, Count Olaf’s house has a lot of greens, blacks and grays; the house of Uncle Monty has a lot of greens and browns and a bit of yellow; and the house of Aunt Josephine has blues and blacks. - Emmanuel Lubezki, cinematographer; P.D. by Rick Heinrichs
Great movie, INCREDIBLE book series. I will always suggest the two.
I only read the first 4 books (I still wanna read the rest of ‘em)! It is such a great movie :D
The moment it hits you is the moment the book leaves your hand. Goes flying across the room and smashes into the wall behind Laura. Misses the art deco clock the two of you got for your six-month anniversary by a hair fracture. The pages go pouring out and that’s when her words start to worm their way into your pores. Blunt and slimy, stick-stucking to your insides.
Breathe. Take a moment to think about what you want to say. It’s a good plan, concise even. Except that, your plan is already in your rear view mirror, planted itself there, the moment you called her a whore. Just came spattering out, along with a few others. You feel like a right shit for saying it and you can’t quite piece together how this day went tits up, you really can’t.
The morning started right when she’d pressed herself close to you. Warm breath against your neck as she whispered hot-blooded nothings. The last sliver of syllables punctuated by her pulling your earlobe between her teeth. You were ready to go the moment she bit down. Woke your neighbours, if they weren’t up already, with moaning screams, and when your lungs ran out of breath, you fell back with a smile plastered across your face. That alone had the makings of a good day about it. Read the rest over on www.juliesmits.com/bunnies #fiction #bunnies #design #radicaltypography #typography #shortstory #story #read #writer
Denying that women are a victimized class is simply wrong. What else would you call a segment of the population who are systematically discriminated against in school, work and politics? How would you describe a population whose bodies are objectified to the point of dehumanization? Women are harassed, attacked and sexually assaulted with alarming regularity in America and around the world, and now even more of them live in states where, if pregnant, they can be refused medical attention or arrested for refusing C-sections.
People who are on the shit end of oppression are oppressed. Accurately describing this is not a matter of politics, but of truth.
why is the female hero so often tomboyish
